What If I Don’t Know What Wedding Dress I Want?
If you’re about to start wedding dress shopping and have absolutely no idea what you want, please don’t panic.
In fact, you might be surprised how many brides walk through the doors of Romsey Bridal Boutique and say exactly that.
“I don’t know what suits me.”
“I don’t really know what I like.”
“I’ve looked online, but now I’m even more confused.”
And our answer is always the same: that’s absolutely fine. You don’t need to know.
You don’t need to do your homework
There can be so much pressure around wedding dress shopping. Pinterest boards, Instagram saves, bridal magazines, TikTok trends… before you know it, you feel as though you should arrive at your first appointment knowing your preferred silhouette, neckline, fabric and designer.

But that’s our job, not yours.
You don’t need to know the difference between an A-line and a fit-and-flare. You don’t need to know whether you suit a basque waist or whether mikado is going to work for you.
You just need to tell us about you.
We’ll ask about your wedding, of course, but we’ll also talk about how you normally like to dress, the parts of your body you love, anything you feel less confident about and, most importantly, how you want to feel on your wedding day.
Then we start trying dresses.
Sometimes the dress you least expect is the dress
After more than two decades of helping brides, one thing we know for certain is that wedding dresses can look completely different on a hanger, in a photograph and on a real body.

It’s why we will sometimes encourage you to try something you might never have picked yourself.
We’re not trying to talk you into something you don’t want. We simply know that sometimes the magic happens in the most unexpected dress.
And there is nothing better than watching a bride look in the mirror and seeing her expression change.
Sometimes she stands a little taller. Sometimes there are tears. Sometimes there’s a huge smile followed by, “I can’t believe I like this!”
Those are some of our favourite appointments.
Try not to get overwhelmed before you even begin
Social media can be wonderful for inspiration, but there is such a thing as too much inspiration.
If you’ve saved hundreds of dresses, watched countless “say yes” videos and read every list of bridal trends you can find, it can actually become harder to hear your own voice.
Wedding dress shopping doesn’t need to be about finding the dress that looks most like your Pinterest board.
It needs to be about finding the dress that makes you feel incredible.

Come with an open mind
One of the best things you can bring to your bridal appointment is an open mind.
You might discover you love lace when you were convinced you wanted plain. You might feel amazing in a fitted gown when you thought you wanted an A-line. Or the simple dress you nearly dismissed on the hanger might suddenly make perfect sense when you put it on.
We’ll guide you, we’ll listen to you and we’ll always give you our honest opinion.
There is no pressure to become a bridal expert before you visit us.
That’s what we’re here for.
At Romsey Bridal Boutique, our appointments are private and relaxed, with one bride at a time. So if the thought of wedding dress shopping feels a little daunting, you won’t be walking into a busy shop full of other brides and strangers.
You’ll have the space, time and guidance to work out what feels right for you.
And if you walk through our door saying, “I honestly have no idea what I want,” that is a perfectly good place to start.
You don’t need to know dresses.
You just need to come as you are. We’ll help with the rest.
